BETHY TRIO

part of GLASSHOUSE – a virtual platform for hybrid on-screen and off-screen performance work

Three performers form a trio on the floor of the SPREEHALLE, refracted in light, sound, costume and video. The polyvalent and constellated body is one that points beyond itself, through meaning, past translation and into posture. Like a Cerberus, death smears memory in reliquaries, temporary possessions become eternal possessions: worn clothes, a starfish found in an oyster shell, key rings.

BETHY TRIO was developed during a short stay at Schloss Wiepersdorf and brings together text fragments by Kathy Acker, Bettina von Arnim, Dodie Bellamy and Sarah Schulman, among others. Recordings of a powerful drum solo by Uschi Bökesch accompany the performance. In a staging that aims at the possibility of trans-historicity, the words deal with science and poetry, the individuality of the sexes and the forms of expression of overcoming Christian ideals of love, moving between historical epochs.
