Bios of the contributors

Sesede Terziyan, trained at the HfS Ernst Busch, is an actress at the Maxim Gorki Theater. After stints at the Deutsches Theater, in Göttingen and at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, she was nominated for Actress of the Year by Theater heute in 2011 for her work in Verrücktes Blut. She regularly appears in film and television, including Almanya, The Cut, Dogs of Berlin and WaPo Berlin. At the Gorki, she works with directors such as Nurkan Erpulat, Yael Ronen and Hakan Savaş Mican and in 2025/26 will be on stage in Berlin Karl-Marx-Platz and East Side Story, among others.

 

Volkan T error is a musician, performer and producer and is one of the pioneers of Turkish hip hop, hardcore and metalcore. He founded the Endzeit Industry label, composes for theater, film and performance and has appeared on stage at the Maxim Gorki Theater and in productions by Rimini Protokoll, among others. In addition to his studies in ethnology, politics and sociology, he ran the akademie der autodidakten at Ballhaus Naunynstraße for many years. He produces electronic and experimental music under various pseudonyms and is currently developing new performances and theater projects.

 

Susanne Fröhlich is a recorder player and specializes in contemporary music, improvisation and innovative concert formats. As a soloist and former co-founder of the QNG quartet, she has performed worldwide, participated in numerous world premieres and collaborated with ensembles such as Adapter, Ictus and the Marc Sinan Company. She has received international prizes and scholarships and has been a lecturer at the UdK Berlin since 2010. In 2019, she completed her research project on the expansion of the recorder in the 21st century with distinction.

 

Oğuz Büyükberber Amsterdam-based clarinetist, synthesizer performer and composer Oğuz Büyükberber combines contemporary music, jazz and influences from his Turkish heritage. He has released over 60 albums on labels such as ECM and Blue Note, composes for acoustic and electro-acoustic formats and teaches internationally. His work also includes visual art, which he incorporates into audiovisual performances, often under his alter ego OX Barber. Improvisation and compositional innovation are at the heart of his artistic practice.

 

Meinrad Kneer is a double bass player, composer, improviser and label operator who moves between jazz, improvised music, contemporary composition and ethnic music. He has performed worldwide and worked with musicians such as Najma Akhtar, Fred Frith, Iva Bittová and the Marc Sinan Company. As a bandleader, he leads projects such as the Meinrad Kneer Quintet and the Phosphoros Ensemble and has been running the Evil Rabbit Records label in Berlin since 2006, which is internationally renowned for innovative, improvised music.

 

Marc Sinan The Berlin composer Marc Sinan works transculturally and transmedially, often in the dual role of composer and artistic director of his Marc Sinan Company. His full-length works deal with socio-political themes and are performed internationally at opera houses, theaters and festivals. Recordings have been released by ECM. Sinan collaborates with ensembles and orchestras from Europe, Asia, Africa and North America and develops projects at the interface of music, theater and digital art.

 

Marc Sinan Company The Marc Sinan Company is an ensemble for contemporary music theater and combines musical precision with social issues. Their works move between music, performance, technology and political reflection and deal with questions of memory, identity and transculturality. Productions such as Neofilia, Kriegsweihe, Offenbarung or Chaosmos are created in interdisciplinary teams and are shown internationally. The company works with partners such as the Humboldt Forum and Kunstfest Weimar, uses technologies such as AI and VR and runs the Spreehalle Berlin and the online label Pantopia Music.

 

Filip Zorzor lives and works in Berlin. Born in Bucharest in 1974, he trained as a visual artist at the Royal College of Art in London, among others, and completed his studies at the Hochschule der Künste as a master student of Bernd Koberling. From 2005 to 2010, he taught painting in the basic course at the Berlin University of the Arts and several guest professorships took him to the China Academy of Art CDK, Hangzhou in China. Research, prizes and scholarships have taken him to Italy, China, Turkey and Romania.
