Between 1938 and 1945, approximately 13 million people were forced to perform forced labor in the German Reich.<\/p>\n<p>In Berlin alone, some 500,000 forced laborers lived in 3,000 camps and collective accommodations spread throughout the city. At no other time have so many people from other countries lived in Berlin and had to work under duress.<\/p>\n<p>The interactive app HUMAN COMMODITY commemorates 99 sites of forced labor in Berlin and makes the stories of 99 forced laborers audible in 99 musical miniatures by Marc Sinan.<\/p>\n<p>These miniatures, recorded in 2022 by musicians and artists from Berlin and Europe, represent all victims of Nazi forced labor.<\/p>\n<p>As pieces of a puzzle, individual destinies can be joined together to form a story, musical solos to form a polyphonic work in which all parts &#8211; just as we humans are in reality &#8211; are interconnected.<\/p>\n<p>With this app we want to encourage you to notice 99 special places in this city. Go and look around and listen (preferably with headphones) to a weighty part of Berlin&#8217;s history. Feel free to use the map in the app as a navigator.
