The concert installation Interspecies balances on the threshold between space-time dimensions: Auditory and visual demarcations are here unbalanced and “a-synchronized”. Five performative sound compositions make the manifold facets between human and non-human actors audible. The clash of 3D sound projections and the performers creates previously unheard space-time artifacts, with sound architecture, body and instrument acting as mediators of lived, social and virtual space. The higher the degree of interspecies the greater the potential to allow body-machine presences to be experienced.

The thematically linked performative setups will be set up in the Spreehalle Berlin and staged in relation to each other through two sound installations. In total, the facilities will be played by actors three times, one into the other. At this moment, the performative bodies transform the sound spaces into chiasms of composed space-time experiences in which object and subject and the assumption of a spatial unity underlying the Cartesian grid are dissolved.

B i r d L 0 re is a hybrid man-machine piece that explores the question of potential instrumentality between the double bass as object and sound body, the bassist, and a 3-9-3 3D sound projector that generates sculpture-like sound objects. This creates moments of experiential augmented reality in the performance space.

pasdedeuX is a performative space-sound installation for 16 turntables of the same model with built-in amplifier and loudspeaker and two performers. Against the backdrop of the ubiquitous media apparatus and its recording and playback devices, which supposedly enable the reconstruction and manipulation of every “live” moment, the piece aims to question the status quo of conventional concert and theater situations and their characteristic use of sound, expectation, and code. This opens the perception to body-space shifts – because, when the needle reaches the end of the record, the space changes at this point and becomes permeable to the change of perspective.

Semaphore is a space-sound composition for two extraordinary and at the same time irritating instruments: Helder tenor recorder and icosahedron loudspeaker (IKO). If one understands both instruments as sound projectors, which make sound sculpturally experienceable, then spatially delimitable sound layers and scenographies are possible, which were hardly producible in this constellation so far. The work dialogically uncovers the perceptual spectrum of both instruments that can be generated, thus expanding the aesthetic possibilities of space-sound composition in the now.
